Gulls Defeat Newbury For the Second Time

In a noon match against Newbury College, played at the Hellenic College of Greek Orthodox Theology, Endicott claimed victory after four games, 30-17, 32-30, 26-30, and 30-26. Playing both middle and setter for the Gulls throughout the match, Russ Friedland continued his consistent play. Friedland finished the match with a team leading seven blocks and six kills. Behind Friedland's wall at the net was Jeremy Fontaine with 12 digs and Brandon Ecker with six.

The Gull offense was generated by a dynamic Fontaine who hit .447% (21k-4e/38att), alternating as middle blocker and outside hitter. Setter Pablo Baez finished the match with 25 assists in two games. Also setting for the Gulls was Craig Steszewski.

On Newbury's side of the net, freshman Ken McNeely was a force and finished with 24 kills in 35 attempts. McNeely also tallied five blocks. Middle blocker, Eric Mattos was second on the team in kills with nine in 28 attempts.

The Gulls, who have now won 9 of their last 10, will host Elms College on Monday, February 23 at 7 PM.
