Coaching Philosophy

Jeremy Howard begins his seventh season as head coach for the Gulls men’s and women’s tennis programs in 2018-19. Howard, a former NCAA DI tennis player at the University of Richmond, has led the women's side to four CCC Championship titles (2012-15) and six consecutive appearances (2012-17) in the conference title match since arriving at Endicott. During that span, the team that has accumulated an 84-28 overall record and a 44-4 conference mark under his reign. Under Howard’s guidance, the Gulls also won their first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament match in program history in 2013. On the men's side, Howard has led the Gulls to four CCC Semifinal appearances in the last five seasons.

Howard came to Endicott after coaching the Stowe (Vt.) High School boys tennis team since the spring of 2011. He oversaw his state championship contending tennis squad through scheduling matches, coordinating and running practices, and coaching the team in approximately 20 head-to-head matches. 

Howard also served as the Director of Marketing for the Grand Slam Tennis Tours, Inc. located in Stowe, Vermont since 2005. He implemented marketing plans, expanded sales and business development, managed social media efforts, edited the company website, and coordinated all marketing and advertising campaigns during his seven-year stint at GSTT.

While earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science (Cum Laude) from the University of Richmond, Howard helped the Spiders to the 2001 Atlantic-10 Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. He went on to get his Master of Education degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Educational Leadership & Student Administration from the University of Vermont in December of 2010 and completed an internship in the UVM athletic department.

Howard has also coached a variety of camps in his career including the Windridge Tennis Camp in Jeffersonville, Vermont, ranked a top 10 tennis camp in the United States by Tennis Magazine, where he was the head tennis counselor and assistant tennis director. He also worked at the Moses Brown RISE Tennis Camp as an assistant director in the summer of 2010. 

“My goal is to continually make our players smarter on the court,” says Howard.  “They need to have the mentality that hard work is the only way to improve our team.” 

In his time at Endicott, Howard has already seen the benefits of getting an Endicott College education. In conversations with recruits, he listens closely to how much time their put in their tennis but he also uses these one-on-one meetings to talk about Endicott academics and the experiential learning program.

“Endicott’s location is premiere, but the wide array of academic majors and the internship and experiential learning programs will prepare graduates for life after college. Endicott students leave Beverly with a resume entact and that is essential in securing post-graduation employment. I want my student-athletes to enjoy their tennis experience, but when they leave Endicott with a degree and a job then I know they taken full advantage of being a member of our community.”
