Men’s Tennis Tops Holy Cross, 7-2

Charles Book hits a backhanded shot.

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's tennis team defeated NCAA Division I opponent Holy Cross, 7-2, on Monday evening at the South Campus Court to move its record to 2-0 on the season. 

Charles Book (Devon, Pa.), Daniel Rinkert (Ben Lomond, Calif.), and Nicholas Eherts (New Milford, Conn.) highlighted the victory for the Gulls. 

In doubles play, Book and Rinkert teamed up for a 7-5 win in the No. 2 slot, while Eherts partnered with Thomas Brent (Gorham, Maine) for a decisive 6-2 victory at No. 3. Meanwhile,  in singles action, Book earned a 6-4, 7-5 triumph at the No. 1 position, Rinkert put together a hard-fought 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 win at No. 4, and Eherts came away with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 5. 

Christopher Kirkpatrick (Newburyport, Mass.) and Justin Toler (Concord, N.H.) rounded out the list of doubles winners with a 6-4 triumph at No. 1, and Anthony Rinaldi (Attleboro Falls, Mass.) registered the final victory of the match with a 6-3, 7-5 score at No. 6 singles.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Book is undefeated in singles play this season (1-0 at No. 1, 1-0 at No. 2) and unblemished at No. 1 singles for his career (3-0).
  • Rinaldi has won three straight singles matches dating back to last season.
  • As a doubles pairing, Kirkpatrick/Toler are 2-0 this season, all at No. 1.

Endicott (2-0) will host the North Shore Invitational this Saturday, starting at 8 AM. Holy Cross (1-3) welcomes Clark University to its campus on Wednesday, October 4 at 3 PM.
