Men’s Tennis Defeats Saint Anselm In Season Opener, 8-1

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's tennis team posted an 8-1 non-conference victory over NCAA Division II opponent Saint Anselm College on Tuesday evening at the South Campus Courts. 

Christopher Kirkpatrick (Newburyport, Mass.), Justin Toler (Concord, N.H.), Daniel Rinkert (Ben Lomond, Calif), and Nicholas Eherts (New Milford, Conn.) headlined the win with victories in both their respective singles and doubles flights. 

Kirkpatrick and Toler teamed up at No. 1 doubles for a gritty 9-8 (7-4) triumph, and followed up that performance with wins at No. 1 (6-3, 6-3) and No. 3 (6-3, 6-3) singles. Meanwhile, Eherts and Rinkert posted an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles, and wins at No. 6 (4-6, 6-2, 10-7) and No. 4 (6-4, 6-0) singles. 

Charles Book (Devon, Pa.) and Thomas Brent (Gorham, Maine) rounded out the list of winners for the Gulls at No. 2 (6-4, 6-2) and No. 5 (7-5, 6-0) singles, respectively.

"That was a great start to the fall season for the men," said Endicott men's tennis head coach Jeremy Howard. "We saw a great fight out of our No. 1 doubles team to claw back late and get us a much-needed lead headed into singles. The team then capitalized on that momentum in singles to push us to 1-0 on the year." 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Rinkert picked up two wins in his collegiate debut for the Gulls.
  • Endicott avenged an 8-1 loss to Saint Anselm from last season on the road.

Endicott (1-0) hosts NCAA Division I opponent Holy Cross on Monday, October 2 at 3:30 PM. Saint Anselm (0-1) travels to Regis this Thursday for a 5:00 PM match.
