Men’s Tennis Downs UMass Boston, 8-1

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's tennis team earned an 8-1 non-conference victory over UMass Boston on Thursday evening at the South Campus Courts.

The Gulls swept doubles, and claimed wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles to clinch the match against the Beacons.

Nicholas Eherts (New Milford, Conn.) and Charles Book (Devon, Pa.) started the match with an 8-4 triumph at No. 3 doubles, while Sean McAndrews (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) and Jack DeRizzo (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) followed with an 8-2 win at No. 2.

Christopher Kirkpatrick (Newburyport, Mass.) and Justin Toler (Concord, Mass.) then completed the doubles sweep for the Gulls at No. 1 with an 8-5 victory.

In singles, play, Thomas Brent (Gorham, Maine) gave Endicott a 4-0 advantage in the match with his quick 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 2 position. Matthew Doherty (Plymouth, Mass.) proceeded to lock up the match shortly after Brent's victory with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at No. 6 to push Endicott's record to 8-6 overall.

The Gulls also saw Book win 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1, Keaton McCleary (Charlotte, N.C.) 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4, and Sam Salvas (Stowe, Vt.) 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 at No. 5.

"Good team win today as we saw a couple guys step up in singles spots a bit higher up than they usually play," said Endicott men's tennis head coach Jeremy Howard. "We will look to get back .500 in conference play against Curry tomorrow."

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Doherty is now 2-0 in singles play this season with both wins coming at the No. 6 position.
  • Salvas improved to 3-1 on the year, and 2-0 in the No. 5 spot.
  • Book and Eherts won their first-ever doubles flight as a pairing today.
