Roger Williams Tops Endicott, 6-3

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Endicott men's tennis team fell to Roger Williams University, 6-3, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) league match on Sunday evening. 

Roger Williams claimed a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of doubles, and clinched its fourth CCC victory of the season with a 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 2 singles by Brendan White (Old Lyme, Conn.) despite trailing 3-2 in singles at one point. 

Endicott saw Nicholas Eherts (New Milford, Conn.) and Thomas Brent (Gorham, Maine) notch a 9-7 triumph at No. 3 doubles, before Christopher Kirkpatrick (Newburyport, Mass.) evened the score in the match at 2-2 with a clean sweep at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-0). 

Eherts followed up Kirkpatrick's win at No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 victory of his own, but the Hawks responded with three straight victories at No. 4 (6-3, 6-1), No. 3 (6-3, 6-4), and No. 2 to wrap up their third win in their last five matches.

"This was an incredibly tight match and bottom line is Roger Williams stepped up in bog spots," said Endicott men's tennis head coach Jeremy Howard. "We have a quick turnaround before playing the defending CCC champs in Nichols on Tuesday on the road." 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Kirkpatrick produced his first 6-0, 6-0 score at No. 1 singles in today's victory over Jake Cole (Sterling, Va.).
  • Kirkpatrick has now won three straight at No. 1 singles and also is 3-0 in CCC play in the first position.
  • Eherts claimed his third straight victory in singles today. He is 6-2 overall (1-1 No. 3, 2-1 No. 4, 1-0 No. 5, 2-0 No. 6).
  • As a doubles pairing, Brent and Eherts are 2-0 on the season, 2-0 in league play, and 1-0 at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights.

Endicott (7-5, 2-1 CCC) travels to Nichols on Tuesday, April 11 at 4 PM. Roger Williams (8-4, 4-1 CCC) visits Eastern Nazarene on Tuesday at 3:30 PM.
