Men’s Tennis Turns Away Salve Regina, 9-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's tennis team posted a 9-0 league victory over Salve Regina University on Saturday afternoon at the South Campus Courts. 

Every student-athlete on the Gulls' roster, which features 12 players total, factored into today's win. Endicott swept doubles behind 8-1 scores in all three flights, and only dropped 11 games in singles play. 

In doubles action, Jack DeRizzo (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Charles Book (Devon, Pa.) were paired at No. 1, while Nicholas Eherts (New Milford, Conn.) and Thomas Brent (Gorham, Maine) were featured at No. 2. Anthony Rinaldi (Attleboro Falls, Mass.) and Christo Papadopoulos (Weymouth, Mass.) served as Endicott's No. 3 lineup. 

Meanwhile, in singles play, Sam Salvas (Stowe, Vt.) gave the Gulls a 4-0 lead in the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles, while Christopher Kirkpatrick (Newburyport, Mass.) clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1. 

The Gulls also saw Justin Toler (Concord, Mass.), Sean McAndrews (Vineyard Haven, Mass.), Keaton McCleary (Charlotte, N.C.), and Matthew Doherty (Plymouth, Mass.) claim victories at No. 2 (6-0, 6-4), No. 3 (6-1, 6-0), No. 4 (6-0, 6-1), and No. 6 singles (6-1, 6-2), respectively.

"It's always good to get a conference win, especially when every student-athlete on the roster factors into us going 2-0 in CCC play," said Endicott men's tennis head coach Jeremy Howard. "We will get some rest tonight and get ready to do battle with Roger Williams tomorrow."

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Brent and Eherts picked up their first career doubles win as a pairing today.
  • Toler is 6-3 in singles play this season (2-1 at No. 1, 2-2 at No. 2, 2-0 at No. 3).
  • Doherty won his first singles match of the year this afternoon.
