Gulls Shut Out Thomas, 4-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's soccer team shut out Thomas (ME) tonight in Hempstead Stadium by a score of 4-0.

The Gulls got on the board first in the 23rd minute when Jesse Martinez (Walpole, Mass.) recorded his second goal of the season. Tyler Johnson (Carver, Mass.) got the play started by winning the ball from a Thomas defender and crossing to a waiting Martinez, who then shot into the lower right-hand corner of the net. 

Sophomore Evan Couchot (Mason, Ohio) then made the score 2-0 in favor of the Gulls at the 57:38 mark with some help from his brother, Conner Couchot (Mason, Ohio). Just over 14 minutes later, Victor DaCosta (Rehoboth, Mass.) netted his first of the season on a cross from Joe Naylor (Southbury, Conn.)

Freshman Jamie Becker (Fairfield, Conn.) recorded his first collegiate goal at 84:27 to cap the scoring. Johnson earned his second assist of the night on the play.    

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott freshman goaltender Will Manuel (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) improved to 2-0-1 on the season and recorded his second shutout of the season. He tallied one save during the contest.
  • The Gulls outshot the Terriers 31-4.
  • E. Couchot paced the offense with 10 total shots, while Martinez delivered four shots on goal.

FOR THE FOES

  • Thomas' goalie, Jonathan Dutka (Durham, N.H.) recorded seven saves during the game.
  • The Terriers were led offensively by Tevin Reid (Dorchester, Mass.), who tallied two shots.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (2-0-1) returns to the pitch on Wednesday, September 13 when the Gulls host Johnson & Wales (RI) for a 7 p.m. matchup. Thomas (2-1-0) hosts the University of New England on Saturday, September 9 at 1 p.m.
