BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's soccer team battled the visiting Williams College Ephs to a 1-1 draw in double-overtime Tuesday night in non-conference action at Hempstead Stadium.
With the tie, Endicott moved to 10-1-2 overall (5-0 CCC), while Williams sits at 4-4-2 (2-3-1 NESCAC).
Senior forward Abdulla Al Khalifa (Riffa, Bahrain) put the Gulls on top early on a pass across the middle from sophomore midfielder Robert Hartan (Hebron, Conn.) that he booted to the back right of the net in the 17th minute for a 1-0 lead that would last through the half.
Senior midfielder/back Troy Ritter (Santa Barbara, Calif.) netted the equalizer in the 59th minute. The score came in traffic in front of the goal on a feed from junior midfielder/forward Malcolm Moutenot (Nashville, Tenn.) that he blasted to the upper left corner over the head of junior goalkeeper Nick Weinstein (Trumbull, Conn.)
Coming off a 2-1 (2 OT) win over Curry College on Saturday, the Gulls were looking for that golden goal magic, but to no avail as tough defense and missed opportunities squashed any chance of an on-the-field celebration in double overtime.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Gulls saw their win streak halt at nine matches, their second-longest streak in program history (10 straight wins in 1998).
- The Gulls have not lost since a 3-1 decision back on September 8 at home against Tufts.
- Endicott has not allowed a first half goal since the 14th minute against Tufts. (Both goals scored since the shutout streak ended came in the second half against Curry and Williams.)
- Tonight's match was the second time these two teams have squared off in overtime (both 2 OT) in the all-time series. (Last time: A 1-0 win for the Ephs at home against Endicott on Oct. 5, 2014.)
- The Gulls are now 1-0-2 in extra time this season, with all three matches heading to double overtime.
- Al Khalifa scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
- Hartan recorded his first assist in an Endicott uniform.
- Weinstein made three stops in goal.
- Tonight's match was the first time all season that the Gulls have not taken a corner kick.
