SALEM, Mass. – The Endicott men's soccer team shut out the host Salem St. Vikings, 1-0, Monday night in non-conference North Shore Cup action at Alumni Field and soared their way into school record books, while garnering national highlights.
With the win, Endicott has posted eight consecutive shutouts and improved to 9-1-1 as the team sits atop the CCC at 4-0-0, while Salem St. fell to 0-10, 0-3 MASCAC.
Senior forward Mark Greco (Belchertown, Mass.) netted the lone goal of the night off a feed from senior midfielder Shintaroh Itoh (Nerima, Tokyo, Japan) in the 62nd minute and junior goalkeeper Nick Weinstein (Trumbull, Conn.) made seven saves as the Gulls won their eighth straight match.
The Endicott men's soccer team currently has the longest active shutout streak and scoreless streak in the entire country across all three levels of NCAA men's soccer. The closest is MIT (Division III) and St. Andrew's (Division II) sitting at five in a row.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Today's match saw junior goalkeeper Nick Weinstein (Trumbull, Conn.) post his ninth clean sheet of the season, (eighth consecutive) and his seven saves is a career-high.
- Weinstein set an Endicott men's soccer program record for most shutouts in a single-season with nine, eclipsing Aaron Kanter's eight in 2011.
- Eight consecutive shutouts is an Endicott men's soccer program record, as the team tallied five consecutive in the 2011 season.
