Corsairs Top Gulls, 4-1

Sept. 27, 2007

BEVERLY, MA - The Endicott College men's soccer team dropped a non-conference match to visiting UMass-Dartmouth, 4-1 on Thursday night.

UMD got on the board early scoring less than three minutes into the game as Sebastian Cordoba (Marlborough, MA/Marlborough) found himself behind the defense and rifled a shot past EC keeper Cam Twiss (Reading, MA/Bishop Fenwick)

The Corsairs continued to build their advantage in the early going, taking advantage of a free kick from 35-yards out as they dumped the ball to Cordoba who found the head of Matt Correia (Dracut, MA/Dracut) for the second goal of the match, giving UMass a 2-0 lead.

UMass-Dartmouth would tack on two more goals before the half with Michael Daley (Mansfield, MA/Mansfield) taking a feed from Adam Rolfe (Southwick, MA/Southwick) and slipping the ball by a sprawling Twiss to make it 3-0 with 15-mintues to play. The Corsairs made it 4-0 in the final three minutes of the first half when Ryan Bell (South Hadley, MA/Holyoke Catholic) headed home a cross from Frank Giampa (Norwood, MA/Norwood).

Endicott came out and played with a sense of urgency as seniors Eric Booth (Belchertown, MA/Belchertown) and Pranam Lipinski (Adams, MA/Hoosac Valley) stiffened up the defense and helped apply pressure in the midfield and offensive third. The Gulls managed a few scoring chances with Pirapong Sirkietsoong (Bangkok, Thailand) and Schuyler Shaughnessy (North Bennington, VT/Burr & Burton) challenging opposing keeper Chris Reagan (Franklin, MA/Franklin).

The Blue and Green broke the shutout with just six seconds remaining on the clock. Sophomore Pat Foley (Wells, ME/Cheverus) caught the Corsairs defense napping, dribbled into the penalty area and poked a shot past the sliding Reagan to make it 4-1.

The loss drops EC to 0-5-2 on the year while UMD improves to 7-1-1 overall. Twiss and Scott Emmens (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield) split time in net for the Gulls with each turning away a pair of shots.

The Blue and Green return to action on Saturday when they get back to TCCC play visiting Curry College at 4:00pm in Milton, Mass. The Corsairs also resume conference play on Saturday when they host LEC rival UMass-Boston in Dartmouth at 1:00 pm.
