BEVERLY, MA - Endicott College Director of Athletics Larry Hiser has announced the hiring of Darren Murray as the new head coach of the men's soccer program effective immediately. Murray comes to Endicott having served as the head coach of Newbury College for the past two seasons.

"Darren was a great player. As a coach, he oozes soccer and self-confidence in a great personal way," said Hiser. "We're looking forward to his leadership for our young men."

Darren Murray comes to Endicott with an excellent soccer background. Originally from Ireland, Murray has played and coached at the professional, collegiate (Divisions I-III), and club levels. Darren began playing professionally in 1988 for St. Patrick's Athletic in the League of Ireland Professional. After four seasons with St. Patrick's Athletic, Murray attended the Football Association of Ireland's Soccer School of Excellence and played as an amateur for St. James' Gate.

Darren came to the United States in 1993, where he attended and played for Massassoit Community College. While at MCC, Murray appeared in two NJCAA Final Fours and was honored as a two-time All Conference and All-New England Regional recipient as a goalkeeper. In 1995, Murray transferred to Mercyhurst College where he led the Lakers to two Elite Eight appearances and one trip to the NCAA Final Four. Individually, Murray was an All Conference and All-Regional member during both his seasons with Mercyhurst.

In 1999, Murray returned to his alma mata in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he served as the assistant coach until 2002. During his four seasons as an assistant, Mercyhurst made four NCAA Tournament appearances, won four Conference Championships and were Nationally Ranked under his guidance.

In 2002, Darren took a staff coaching position with the New England Revolution Soccer Academy of the MLS. Darren's other coaching accolades include the top job of the South Shore United Blazers, a staff coach for the Massachusetts Olympic Development program, and the goalkeeper coach at Division I Boston College.

Darren comes to Endicott after leaving Newbury College, where he took over the Nighthawks program in 2005. Murray won a conference title for Newbury in his first season, while also being voted the Newbury College "Coach of the Year."
