Oct. 27, 2003

Beverly, MA- With two quick goals in the first 9 minutes of play, the Gulls over took the Leopards in Saturdays Commonwealth Coast Conference match up. With the win the Gulls record extends to 8-5-4 and the Leopards drops to 4-11.

Freshman sweeper Chris Croteau scored his second goal of the season only 3 minutes into the game. A John Haskos corner kick was deflected out by Leopard goalie Wade Fleming only to be headed back into the net by Croteau. Six minutes later junior midfielder Mariano Pagano collected a pass from Haskos and rocketed it into the back of the net. The Leopards did not let up however. With 27 minutes on the clock senior forward Ben McConchie converted a penalty kick closing the gap at 2-1.

Playing down a man in the second half, the Gulls were still able to capitalize as sophomore midfielder Daniel Duvernoy stripped the ball from a Leopard defender and scored late in the second half to cap the scoring at 3-1.

Senior goalkeeper Mitch Donar recorded 6 saves in the win, while Fleming turned aside four shots for the Leopards.

Mitch Donar, John Haskos, Josh Pierson, Yonathan Bendesky, and Jeffrey Myers were all recognized Saturday for Senior Day.

The Gulls close out their regular season play Wednesday when they travel to UNE for a 3pm start in an important match for EC. The Gulls need a win over UNE (3-11-1) to remain close to the top in CCC standings.
