Gulls lose in overtime thriller to Roger Williams

Sept. 22, 2003

Bristol, RI- The Endicott Gulls were within five minutes of handing Roger Williams its first regular season conference game loss in almost two years, when Roger Williams' 2002 All-American forward Andrew Combra blasted a free kick from 25 yards out to tie the game 2-2 and bring it into overtime.

The Hawks of Roger Williams went on to win in overtime as Jamie Danis scored his fourth game-winning goal of the season defeating Endicott College 3-2.

Despite a meager first half showing by Endicott, and a Hawk goal by Brain Cussen at the 25 minute mark, the Gulls took control of the game early in the second half as they sustained pressure in the Hawks defensive end and junior forward Josh Lewis tallied twice to give Endicott the lead. First, off a pass from junior forward Nathan Briggs, Lewis threaded the needle through the defense and his shot from the right side trickled just inside the left post and into the back of the net. About five minutes later, Lewis converted on a penatly kick to put Endicott up 2-1.

However, the Gulls were not able to hold on as goals by Combra and Danis ended the game for the Gulls down 3-2.

Sophomore goalkeeper Colin Kemble played in his first full game of the season for the Gulls making 5 saves, while Roger Williams goalkeeper Kevin Deegan had six saves.

The Gulls do not play again until next Saturday, September 27th at 4:00pm when they go to Saint Joseph's for an out of conference contest.
