Endicott Turns Away Mass. Maritime, 57-7

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's club rugby team faced off against Mass. Maritime on Saturday defeating the Buccaneers 57-7 in another Colonial Coast Rugby Conference (CCRC) matchup.

The first half started out with senior Nick Rowe (Avon, Conn.) scoring an early try for the Gulls. Endicott kept the momentum going forward scoring two more tries by senior Brian Sussingham (Yonkers, N.Y.) and senior Captain Kidder Spillane (Shelburne, V.T.). After falling behind 19-0, the Buccaneers rallied narrowing the margin to 19-7, late in the first half. Before the half closed out Sussingham scored again, putting the Gulls ahead 26-7 at halftime.

Endicott started the scoring early on in the second half with senior Conor O'Neill (Chester, N.J.) scoring a try. The Gulls continued the momentum with four other tries coming from seniors Jesse Adelberg (Old Greenwich, Conn.), Nick Iavicoli (Kalispell, M.T.), Tom Oliva (Rutland, Mass.), and Marjon Solomon (Waltham, Mass.).

"It was a really good team effort. We held our heads up high," said Spillane. "After they scored one try we kept pushing hard and the boys did a good job all around."

Coach Cormier also responded in regards to the Gulls' efforts.

"I thought we executed today," said Cormier. "It was sloppy at times, but we recovered well and ended out on top."

Meanwhile, The "Man of the Match" was senior Nick Iavicoli. On top of his try he controlled the back line, had several good runs and kicks, and had great field vision.

Endicott will return on action on Sunday, October 30th when the Gulls host Wentworth Institute of Technology for a 11:30 a.m. start on Senior Day.
