Endicott Falls To Salve Regina 41-25

NEWPORT, R.I.  – The Endicott men's club rugby team traveled to Newport, R.I. over the weekend falling to Colonial Coast Rugby Conference (CCRC) rival Salve Regina 41-25.

The Gulls came out firing and took control in the early minutes of the game. Senior Kidder Spillane (Shelburne, V.T.) helped the team take an early 5-0 lead with a great run along the touchline. The Seahawks dominated the remainder of the first half scoring four times and entered the half 24-5.

The second half started with Salve Regina striking first, and extending its lead to 31-5. The Gulls rallied and scored four tries in the second half, three of which coming from senior Brian Sussingham (Yonkers, N.Y.). Senior Captain Mavrick MacEachern (Manchester, Mass.) helped narrow the margin with his second half conversion. The Seahawks responded quickly, however, with two additional tries for the final score 41-25.

Sussingham's three tries, as well as many great runs that penetrated the Seahawks defensive line and tremendous tackling on the defensive side, earned him the honor of "Man of the Match".

The Gulls return to action against Western New England University at Hempstead Stadium on Saturday, October 15.
