Garrity, Souza Earn USILA/Warrior and New Balance Scholar All-America Honors

USILA RELEASE | ENDICOTT USILA SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICA LIST

BEVERLY, Mass. – Recent Endicott College men's lacrosse graduates Grant Garrity (Duxbury, Mass.) and Hayden Souza (West Hartford, Conn.) have received United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)/Warrior and New Balance Scholar All-America honors, as announced by the USILA and its corresponding sponsors earlier today.

In order to claim Scholar All-America accolades, a student-athlete must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player.

The USILA Scholar All-America Program was established in 1989 to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically, and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III. The Scholar All-Americans are recognized at the annual Lacrosse All-America Banquet.

Garrity and Souza both were more than deserving of their USILA/Warrior and New Balance Scholar All-America honors as each student-athlete performed at an exemplary level on and off the field this past season.

Garrity's academic honors this spring included the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Scholar-Athlete award, a CCC Academic All-Conference nod, and New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Academic All-New England laurels. Meanwhile, athletically, Garrity received USILA All-America Honorable Mention accolades, was selected to the NEILA East-West Senior All-Star Game, Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) Northeast All-Region Honorable Mention laurels, a selection to the NEILA All-Region Third Team, and a spot on the All-CCC First Team.

As for Souza, in the classroom, the senior midfielder was named a CCC Academic All-Conference and NEILA Academic All-New England honoree. On the field, Souza garnered IMLCA Northeast All-Region Honorable Mention accolades, a NEILA All-Region Third Team Short-Stick Specialist selection, CCC Short-Stick Specialist of the Year honors and a spot on the All-CCC First Team.

Garrity and Souza are the first men's lacrosse student-athletes to be named Scholar All-Americans since Harrison Cotter '15 M'17 (Lordship, Conn.) did so in 2015. Overall, the men's lacrosse program has had 11 student-athletes claim USILA Scholar All-America honors, dating back to 2008 when Lucien Bolduc '08 M'09 (South Windsor, Conn.) became the first student-athlete in program history to earn the honor.

YEAR IN REVIEW

Endicott posted an 11-8 record and 7-1 mark in conference play. The Gulls earned the No. 2 seed in the CCC Tournament and defeated Wentworth (20-4) and Roger Williams (12-11, 3OT) to advance to the CCC Championship, but, ultimately, fell to top-ranked Western New England, 9-8.
