NCAA TOURNAMENT: Endicott Visits No. 8 Cortland State On Wednesday

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's lacrosse team (10-7) will play No. 8 nationally ranked SUNY Cortland (15-2) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday, May 10 in Cortland, New York at 4 PM. 

THE MATCHUP: Wednesday's matchup will mark just the second time that Endicott and SUNY Cortland have ever gone head-to-head. The first and only meeting between the programs occurred in the second round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament, which resulted in a 13-6 win for the Red Dragons. 

SCOUTING ENDICOTT: The Gulls enter the second round of the NCAA Tournament on a three-game winning streak and winners of nine out of their last 10 contests. Endicott's NCAA rankings include: face-off percentage (3rd, .707), ground balls per game (12th, 40.29), ground balls (18th, 685), points per game (65th, 18.71), assists (60th, 117), assists per game (68th, 6.88), scoring offense (70th, 11.82), saves (49th, 209), saves per game (82nd, 12.29), and scoring defense (122nd, 10.35). 

SCOUTING SUNY CORTLAND: Prior to their 10-6 loss to SUNY Plattsburgh in the SUNYAC Championship game on May 6, the Red Dragons had rattled off seven straight wins. SUNY Cortland is 8-2 on the road this season, and 8-2 in its last 10. 

Prior to last season (2016, second round NCAA Tournament loss to Tufts), Cortland had reached at least the national quarterfinal round 14 straight years. The Red Dragons have played in the national championship game five times since 2006, with four straight showings from 2006-09 as well as an appearance in 2012. Cortland won the 2006 national crown versus Salisbury and the 2009 title against Gettysburg. The Red Dragons lost to Salisbury in the national finals in 2007, 2008 and 2012. 

SUNY Cortland's NCAA Ranks include: face-off percentage (80th, .540), ground balls per game (37th, 36.88), ground balls (33rd, 627), points per game (37th, 21.29), assists (41st, 133), assists per game (39th, 7.82), scoring offense (36th, 13.47), saves (139th, 170), saves per game (176th, 10.00), and scoring defense (65th, 8.94).

The winner of Wednesday's matchup will play the winner of St. Lawrence/Montclair State on Saturday, May 13.
