No. 9/12 Middlebury Pulls Away From Endicott, 17-7

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – No. 9/12 nationally ranked Middlebury outscored Endicott 9-1 over the final 35:25 of the contest to register a 17-7 victory over the Gulls on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Alumni Field.

Leading 8-6 more than halfway through the second quarter, Middlebury used a 4-0 run that spilled into the third quarter to push its lead to 12-6, and later answered Will Jennings' (Danvers, Mass.) hat-trick tally at 10:47 of the third with five unanswered strikes to seal the win.

Jennings paced the Gulls with three goals and one assist, while Tommy Hughes (Coram, N.Y.), Colin Bannon (Westport, Conn.), Byran McManus (Concord, Mass.) and A.J. MacDonald (New Fairfield, Conn.) all found the back of the net once.

In goal, Kenny Sturgess (Hampstead, N.H.) and Grant Thompson (South Hamilton, Mass.) split halves for the Gulls as Sturgess stopped six shots in the first 30 minutes of action and Thompson had four saves in the final 30 minutes of play.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Hughes, Bannon, and Matthew Faucher (Western Springs, Ill.) all dished out once assist in the loss along with Jennings who leads the team with five helpers.
  • Hughes won the matchup for the third straight game at the face-off X (17-for-27, 11 GB)
  • Dylan Carter (Bethel, Conn.) notched two caused turnovers (tied career-high).

FOR THE FOES

  • Henry Riehl (Baltimore, Md.) potted a game-high seven goals. Riehl also had one assist and two ground balls.
  • The Panthers' offense featured seven other goal scorers highlighted by Jake Schneider's (New York, N.Y.) three tallies.
  • Will Ernst (San Francisco, Calif.) made six saves in the win (1-0) over 30 minutes of playing time, while Will Perry (Ranoake, Va.) had three saves in 26:25.
  • Charles Midgley (Scarborough, N.Y.) also saw time in goal for the Panthers (3:35).
