BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's lacrosse team fell to No. 7 nationally ranked Middlebury College, 16-10, on Tuesday night at Hempstead Stadium.
Will Jennings (Danvers, Mass.) led the Gulls offensively in the loss with four goals and one assist. Mitchell Tapley (Falmouth, Maine) also contributed a hat-trick, while Colin Bannon (Westport, Conn.) added one goal and a team-high three helpers. Will Farfalla (Glen Rock, N.J.) and Peter Field Jr. (Hampstead, N.H.) rounded out the attack with solo tallies.
Middlebury senior midfielder Sean Carroll (Wilton, Conn.) paced all scorers with five goals, to go along with one assist, while Jon Broome (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) compiled six points on two markers and four assists. Tim Giarrusso (Hingham, Mass.) and Kyle Soroka (Boxborough, Mass.) also highlighted the Panthers' offense by scoring two goals apiece.
Tied 3-3 after the first quarter, Middlebury received goals from five different scorers in the second to claim an 8-5 cushion headed into the break. Soroka and Broome opened up the second with back-to-back goals at 13:29 and 8:21, respectively, before Bannon answered for Endicott with his lone tally of the night at 5:44 to make it a 5-4 contest.
Jack Gould (Prides Crossing, Mass.) and Giarrusso followed with consecutive goals (4:27, 2:56) and Jack Cleary (Bethesda, Md.) capped the scoring for the Panthers with 24-seconds remaining in the half to manufacture their three-point gap on the scoreboard.
Middlebury went on to pull away in the second half as the guests outscored Endicott by an identical 8-5 score for the win.
Endicott goalie Cameron Bell (Falmouth, Maine) stopped a game-high 15 shots in the loss (1-3), while Will Ernst (San Francisco, Calif.) made seven saves in the win (1-0).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Tommy Hughes (Coram, N.Y.) went 17-for-29 at the face-off X and also notched 11 ground balls.
- Hughes has not lost a matchup at the X this season in four games played.
- Field Jr. also dished out two assists to finish the night with three points (his third multi-point game in 2016).
