BEVERLY, Mass. – The No. 19 nationally ranked Endicott men's lacrosse team fell to Stevens, 16-15, in overtime on Sunday afternoon at Hempstead Stadium.
Stevens' senior attackman Andrew Scrutchfield (Lewes, Del.) scored the game-winner for the Ducks with 38-seconds left in overtime when he rifled home a shot at the doorstep off a feed from classmate Connor O'Shea (Ridgewood, N.J.).
Senior midfielder Colin Sawula (Northampton, Mass.) initiated the scoring opportunity when he intercepted a pass at the top of Endicott's scoring area in Stevens' own defensive end, and successfully transitioned the ball into the offensive third before finding O'Shea who set up the game-winning tally for Scrutchfield.
Scrutchfield's game-winner also capped a 3-0 run by Stevens late in the contest as the Ducks received goals from Tommy Dawson (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Eric Radbourne (Ontario, Canada) at the 4:10 and 3:05 marks, respectively, of the fourth quarter to force overtime.
Endicott's Will Jennings (Danvers, Mass.) led all scorers with a career-high seven goals, while Colin Bannon (Westport, Conn.) added five goals and four assists in the loss. Scrutchfield tied Max Bailey (Millersville, Md.) for the team-high in goals for Stevens with three apiece.
In goal, Carson White (Dowingtown, Pa.) stopped eight shots in the win (2-0), while Cameron Bell (Falmouth, Maine) recorded a career-high 24 saves in the loss (0-2).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Bannon tied his career-high for points with nine in today's contest.
- Tommy Hughes (Coram, N.Y.) went 23-for-34 at the face-off X en route to picking up a career-high 18 ground balls.
- Hughes also fell one face-off win shy of tying his career-high of 24 (Gordon, 04/05/14; Gordon, 04/29/15).
- Bell's previous career-high in net for saves was 22, which came against Amherst on March 13, 2015.
- Endicott led by as many as five goals (9-4, 5:54 of the second quarter).
- Stevens is now 5-3 in the all-time series versus Endicott. The Gulls had won the previous two matchups prior to today's game.
FOR THE FOES
- Stevens outshot Endicott, 55-40, and went 17-for-19 (.895) in clears in the win.
- The Ducks went 2-for-5 on extra-man opportunities. Both man-up goals for Stevens helped its fourth quarter comeback as Bailey cut the deficit to 14-12 at the 10:32 mark, before Radbourne tied up the game at 15-15 with 3:05 left to play.
- Scott Wedgeworth (Jackson, N.J.) went 10-for-26 at the face-off X.
