Winkler, Shaheen Receive CCC Men’s Ice Hockey Weekly Honors

CCC WEEKLY AWARDS RELEASE

BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott men's ice hockey student-athletes James Winkler (York, Maine) and Mitch Shaheen (North Andover, Mass.) have received weekly awards from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), as announced by the league office earlier today. Winkler was named the CCC Men's Ice Hockey Player of the Week, while Shaheen claimed CCC Men's Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week accolades.

Last week against Becker, Winkler was a big factor in the Gulls dominating weekend of CCC play. He scored seven goals and dished out four assists for an 11-point total. In the first game of the series, Winkler potted two goals to go along with a helper as Endicott picked up a 5-0 win over Becker. He followed that up with a record-setting performance, netting a program-best five goals, which along with his three assists, gave him the Gulls' highest single-game point output at eight total. In Saturday's (Jan. 25) contest, the Gulls also set team records in goals (15), assists (29), and points (44). Winkler was especially strong on special teams with four of his tallies coming on the man-advantage and another coming shorthanded. He finished the week with a plus-nine rating.

Meanwhile, Shaheen notched career-highs in Endicott's commanding victory over Becker on Saturday (Jan. 25). He scored two goals and three assists for five points, all personal-bests, as the Gulls also set team records in goals (15), assists (29), and points (44). Shaheen was also a factor in the first game of the series on Thursday (Jan. 23) as he picked up an assist in the 5-0 win. The first-year player finished the week with a plus-six rating.

Additionally, today's honors are Winkler and Shaheen's first career CCC Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week laurels, respectively.
