Western New England Edges Men’s Ice Hockey In Regular Season Finale, 4-3

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Endicott men's ice hockey team fell to Western New England University, 4-3, on Saturday night in conference action at the Olympia Ice Center.

Endicott received goals from James Winkler (York, Maine), Hunter Luhmann (Lebanon, N.H.), and Ross Olsson (Billerica, Mass.) in the loss.

Trailing 2-1 early in the second period, Luhmann answered for the Gulls at the 2:06 mark off an Olsson rebound that hit the post to even up the contest. Olsson followed later on with a tally of his own at 14:28 (PP) to give Endicott a 3-2 advantage but the Golden Bears responded with a pair of goals down the stretch (16:55, 2nd, PP | 3:37, 3rd SH) to come away with the victory.

Meanwhile, in net, Conor O'Brien (Pinellas Park, Fla.) stopped 16 shots, while his counterpart Kyle Carducci (Rocky Hill, Conn.) made a season-high 52 saves for the Golden Bears.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Despite the loss, Endicott is 9-1-0 all-time against Western New England.
  • The Gulls are 6-5-1 on the road this season.
  • Carducci's career-high for saves is 57 (vs. UNE, 6-5 loss, December 8, 2017).

Endicott (15-8-2, 9-8-0 CCC) will travel to Nichols for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament quarterfinals matchup on Wednesday, October 20 at 7:10 PM. Western New England's season comes to a close at 8-17-0, 3-14-0 CCC.
