No. 10/10 UNE Holds Off No. 8/9 Endicott, 4-2

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The No. 8/9 Endicott men's ice hockey team fell to No. 10/10 University of New England, 4-2, in conference action on Friday night at the Harold Alfond Forum. 

UNE jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second period as Adam Canepa (Santa Cruz, Calif.) buried a short-handed tally at 13:32 and Derek Mecrones (Medford, Mass.) followed with a goal at 16:29. 

Logan Day (Seminole, Fla.) responded for Endicott quickly in the third with goal just 1:47 into the frame, but both teams went on to trade goals the rest of the way for the 4-2 decision. Day found the back of the net at 13:59 for the Gulls' second goal of the contest, while Ryan Bloom (Northville, Mich.) and Brady Fleurent (Biddeford, Maine) notched scores for the Nor'easters at 13:46 (short-handed) and 19:46 (empty net), respectively. 

UNE freshman goalie Ben Churchfield (Newcastle, England) finished with 27 saves in the win (9-2-2). Endicott netminder Mark Specia (Ringwood, N.J.) had 31 saves in the loss (10-2-0). 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • UNE now leads the all-time series 2-1-1.
  • Endicott is 8-3-1 on the road.
  • The Nor'easters are 10-2-0 at home this season.
