EVERETT, Mass. – Junior defenseman Logan Day (Seminole, Fla.) buried his first goal of the season with 1:50 remaining in the contest to lift No. 10/12 nationally ranked Endicott past Wentworth, 2-1, on Thursday night at Allied Veterans Memorial Rink.
Trailing 1-0 late in the second period, Gulls' junior forward Ross Olsson (Billerica, Mass.) evened the score at the 19:24 mark with his first tally of the year on a feed from Day. Endicott then went on to outshoot Wentworth 16-2 in the third period before Day found the back of the net on helpers by Carter Horwitz (Tustin, Calif.) and Jack Musil (Skidby, England) to lock up the win.
Mark Specia (Ringwood, N.J.) was tested down the stretch twice by the Leopards with their net open but the junior goalie was up to the task both times. Specia (1-1-0) finished the night with 29 saves. Meanwhile, his counterpart, Ryan Hubbard (West Roxbury, Mass.) had a season-high 40 saves in the loss (0-2-0).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott is 5-1-0 in the all-time series versus Wentworth.
- The Gulls also have won the last four matchups in a row.
- Olsson now has 67 career points (first in program history). His 30 career goals also rank second all-time.
FOR THE FOES
- Georgy Gorodetskii (Yekaterinburg, Russia) potted the first goal of the game on the power play at 9:44 of the second. Gorodetskii was assisted by Connor Busch (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) and Ethan Weiss (Troy, Mich.).
- The Leopards blocked a game-high 11 shots, highlighted by Garrett Geane (Fullerton, Calif.) who compiled a game-high three blocked shots.
- Jake McDonough (Marshfield, Mass.) won a game-high 19 faceoffs.
WHAT'S NEXT
No. 10/12 Endicott (1-1-0, 1-0-0 CCC) will complete its home-and-home series with Wentworth (0-3-0, 0-1-0 CCC) this Saturday at Raymond J. Bourque Arena with puck drop scheduled for 2 PM.
