Grimbilas Named Guy Tedesco Award Recipient; Gulls Finish 6th at NEIGA Championship

BREWSTER, Mass. - The Endicott men's golf team competed at the NEIGA Championships over the weekend at the Captains Golf Club in Brewster, Mass. and the Gulls claimed sixth in the 23-team field. Senior Nicholas Grimbilas (Strafford, N.H.) was the recipient of the prestigious Guy Tedesco Award, becoming just the second golfer in program history to earn the distinction. 

The Guy Tedesco Award is given annually to the outstanding New England college golfer who displayed the qualities Guy Tedesco was noted for: unselfish leadership, outstanding talent, love of golf, and willingness to promote positive aspects of golf to others. Grimbilas joins Nicholas Erlichman ''14 as the only two Gulls to earn the Award.

Leading the Gulls at the NEIGA Championship was sophomore Will Pierce (Melrose, Mass.), as he shot a two-day total of +3, 147 to finish tied for ninth in the field of 115. Pierce fired a -1, 71 on Saturday before closing with a +4, 76 on day two. 

Junior Tyler Baker (Falmouth, Maine) continued his impressive fall, finishing tied for 17th with a two-day total of +5, 149. Baker opened with a +5, 77 before closing with a round of E, 72 to jump from a tie for 41st to 17th on the final day.

Brady Burke (Bedford, N.H.) finished just behind Baker with a two-day total of +8, 152, after rounds of +2, 74, and +6, 78. Burke's total tied him for 32nd overall, just ahead of Frank Mahoney (Braintree, Mass.), who finished in a tie for 40th. Mahoney carded a two-day total of +11, 155 after posting rounds of +2, 74 and +9, 81. Grimbilas finished the scoring for the Gulls with rounds of 84 and 82 to finish tied for 85th.

BEYOND THE SCORECARD

  • Endicott finished tops amongst all Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) institutions, after posting a combined total of 603 (297-306), edging out Suffolk (9th, 611), Roger Williams (t-11th, 622), Nichols (13th, 623), Western New England (18th, 656), University of New England (20th, 660) and Wentworth (21st, 662).
  • This was Pierce's first time leading the Gulls this fall.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Gulls will now take to off-season training as the team prepares for the spring slate, with eyes set on the CCC Championship in late April.
