ENDICOTT COLLEGE PROGRAMS OF STUDY | INTERNSHIPS AND CAREERS

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College is a pioneer in requiring comprehensive internship experiences in every program of study for undergraduate students. Here's a look into men's golf student-athlete and hotel management major Christopher Billings' '19 (Portland, Maine) internship experience at The Langham Hotel.

ECGULLS: Describe your overall internship experience.

BILLINGS: I am a guest relations intern with The Langham Hotel in Boston. My overall internship experience has been fulfilling and a great learning experience so far. I have been able to adapt to a new environment and new team and help staff with daily tasks. I have also been able to fill a role that was left open by an employee who moved on to a different job shortly after I began my internship. I have been able to help the hotel fill that position until they hire a new person for that full-time position.

ECGULLS: What have you learned from your internship?

BILLINGS: I have learned a lot in the short time that I have been at The Langham. The biggest thing I have learned is how to make critical decisions quickly and learn new programs and software in a short time period. I was given quick, but good training by other team members so I could adapt quickly and fit right into the staff even though I am only an intern.

ECGULLS: How will this internship help you in your career moving forward?

BILLINGS: I think my time at The Langham will benefit me greatly down the road. The Langham is a luxury hotel with a respected name in the hotel industry within the Boston market. Having this internship on my resume will certainly have a positive impact on my future, wherever I may end up in the hotel industry.

THE ENDICOTT INTERNSHIP MODEL

A philosophy of "learning by doing" permeates the college curriculum in which students are encouraged to integrate theory and practice in all of their studies.

Through their experiences in internships students will be prepared to:

  • Apply, integrate, and evaluate knowledge within a particular academic discipline
  • Develop competencies for careers and community service
  • Explore career options and gain field experience
  • Foster personal growth through increased self-confidence, interpersonal skills, an understanding of self and others, and a heightened awareness of ethical standards
  • Improve the ability to learn in a self-directed manner

"The Endicott internship model allows students to have multiple opportunities throughout their college experience to discover their passions, bolster career confidence, and develop a marketable skill set while creating a professional network that will serve them well after graduation," said Endicott's Dean of the Internship and Career Center Eric Hall. "Endicott students leave with the career-readiness competencies and passion needed to excel in today's workforce."
