Palazzo Claims Medalist Honors, Gulls Finish Fourth At WNEU Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Endicott junior Ben Palazzo (Farmington, Conn.) finished first overall with a score of 70 to lead the Gulls to fourth place at the Western New England University (WNEU) Invitational on Thursday evening at Veterans Memorial Golf Course.

Tournament host WNEU took top honors with a score of 300 among the seven teams entered in the one-day tournament. Rhode Island College (302), Babson (303), Endicott (309), and Salem State (315) followed in respective order to round out the top-5.

Individually, Palazzo beat the rest of the field by two strokes, and was the only student-athlete among the 49 competitors to shoot under par (-2) in the one-day tournament. Palazzo shot -2 behind his 11 pars, three birdies, and one eagle.

Carter Knox (Hinesburg, Vt.) came in 13th (tied) with a score of 78, while Dan Negus (Pembroke, Mass.) ranked 23rd (tied) with an 81. Corey Zegarzewski (Hope Valley, R.I.) finished one stroke behind Negus for 29th overall (tied), and Hunter Donovan (Loudonville, N.Y.) concluded the Gulls' lineup in 49th place (90).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Palazzo has been the top golfer in Endicott's lineup the last two tournaments, which counts today's medalist honors.
  • Palazzo also shot -1 on par 4 holes, and -3 on par 5 holes in today's tournament.
  • At last year's WNEU Invitational, Palazzo shot a 77 and finished in a tie for 12th.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott will compete in the Johnson & Wales University (JWU) Invitational this Saturday and Sunday in Cranston, Rhode Island at the Cranston Country Club.
