Endicott Finishes Second At Husson Invitational

BANGOR, Maine – In their last tune-up before the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship qualifier, the Endicott men's golf team took home a second place finish at the Husson Invitational at the Bangor Municipal Golf Club. This was the second match of the week for the Gulls as they placed second overall at the University of New England (UNE) Invitational on Thursday.

The Gulls finished the weekend with a team score of 606 (302,304), five strokes off the winning pace, to finish second in the nine team field. Leading the charge for Endicott was Athan Goulos (Peabody, Mass.) posting identical scores of 75 on Saturday and Sunday to finish three strokes back from the lead.

Ben Palazzo (Farmington, Conn.) posted the top score on day one shooting a 72 before shooting an 80 on day two to finish tied for eighth place.   

Drew Benshoff (Concord, Mass.), Christopher Billings  (Portland, Maine) and Dan Negus (Pembroke, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the Gulls, finishing with rounds of +15 (81,72), +17 (77,78) and +19 (78,79), respectively.  Benshoff finished tied for 10th, Billing finished tied for tied for 12th, and Negus finished 17th in the 47-man field.

"We were right there after day one, just three strokes back from the lead as a team." said Endicott head coach Tom Smith. "I am proud of the way our team played as a whole and we are in great shape heading in to the CCC Qualifier."

BEYOND THE CARD

  • The last time Endicott played in the Husson invitational was 2013 finishing second out of 10 teams
  • Benshoff finished in 10th place twice this week at both the UNE and Husson Invitationals. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott will have next weekend off from competition to prepare for the CCC Championship qualifier on Tuesday, October 2nd at South Shore Country Club in Hingham, Mass.
