Gulls Take Second at UNE Invitational

Kennebunkport, Maine - In the first of two tournaments this week, the Endicott men's golf team finished second in a six team field at the UNE Invitational, just seven strokes back of St. Joseph's College. Endicott now travels to Bangor, Maine to compete in the two-day Husson Invitational this weekend.

St. Joseph's College took home the top spot among six competing teams with a score of 291 on the day, while Endicott posted a score of 298 for the runner-up position. The host UNE finished third with a score of 302, while Southern Maine and UMaine-Farmington posted identical scores 303 to round out the top five.

Sophomore Christopher Billings (Portland, Maine) led the way for the Gulls finishing tied for second with a score of 71 on the day.  Junior Drew Benshoff (Concord, Mass.) registered a score of 75 on the day for a 10th place result. Athan Goulos (Peabody, Mass.) and Dan Negus (Pembroke, Mass) also contributed for the Gulls posting identical scores of 76.

"The team played very steady today against some challenging competition in St. Joseph's College" said head coach Tom Smith. "I'm with happy with our performance and the fact that we were able to post a team score under 300."

BEYOND THE CARD

  • The Gulls finished runner-up to St. Joseph's College for the second year in a row at the UNE Invitational.
  • Chris Billings shot two under par (32) on the back nine for the lowest score post on the back.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott is currently en route to Bangor, Mass. to compete in the two-day Husson Invitational at the Bangor Municipal Golf Club. The Gulls will tee off at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and again at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday.
