Men's Golf Open Season at Bowdoin Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Endicott Gulls golf team opened their 2011 campaign with an appearance at the Bowdoin Invitational tournament at the Brunswick Golf Club this past weekend. Endicott took fifth place overall in a ten-team field that included schools from Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine.

Nick Erlichman (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was the best player at the tournament for Endicott and took seventh place overall. Erlichman shot rounds of 77 and 79 for a 156 total over the weekend. Sophomore Stephen Price (Medway, Mass.) shot a combined 164 to take 19th place in the event.

Sophomore Jack Carroll (West Hartford, Conn.) (79-88-167) and junior Jackson Wyman (Falmouth, Maine) (80-88-168) also figured into the decision for the Gulls, as only the top four scores from each school counted for the team event.

The Gulls held third place after shooting a 317 on day one Saturday, but slipped the second day under windy conditions and ended in fifth place with 652 points.

Chris Hamel of Husson was the overall winner at the event, shooting a 71 the first day, the best round of the event Hamel followed the effort with a round of 73 on Sunday, as he led Husson (616 points) to the overall championship by fourteen strokes over St. Anselm. Williams (641) and Bowdoin (650) rounded out the top four.

The Gulls will now gear up for an important tournament – the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Invitational, which will be held on September 22nd at Green Hills Golf Club.
