PROVIDENCE, R.I. – With the second day of play being
cancelled due to weather conditions, Endicott's golf team has
secured a third place finish at the Rhode Island College
Invitational tournament.
The Gulls, who shot a combined 334 from their five golfers, sat in
third place out of 13 teams after yesterday's opening round, and
those results will stand as the final rankings.
Endicott's best performance came from freshman Brett
Malboeuf (Shrewsbury, Mass.), who shot a 79 on the day,
good enough to tie him for third place overall. Malboeuf finished
his round with a 38 on the back nine after starting the day with a
41.
Sophomore Ian Teal
(Loudonville, N.Y.) shot his 38 on the front nine and followed it
with a 42. His round of 80 tied him for eighth place overall.
Captain Jackson
Wyman (Falmouth, Maine) and Jack
Carroll (West Hartford, Conn.) had impressive showings as
well. Wyman tied for 26th with an 87 on the day and
Carroll was tied for 29th overall by shooting 88.
Sophomore Nick Erlichmann (Shrewsbury, Mass.) rounded out
Endicott's score with a 90, tying him for 33rd in a
field of 65 golfers.
Husson University was the tournament champions with an overall
score of 317, and Chris Hamel, who shot a 72 was declared the
individual medalist. Host Rhode Island College finished in second
place, just a stroke back at 318.
This tournament marked the team's first event since their fall
season ended at the NEIGA championship last October. The Gulls will
continue to prepare for the upcoming Commonwealth Coast Conference
(CCC) Championship tournament, slated for the weekend of April
28th. Endicott qualified for the CCC championship with a
third place showing at the conference qualifier in September.
