BEVERLY, MA - The Endicott College Men's Golf Team is looking forward to a successful season in the fall of 2006. The incoming freshmen look very promising with almost 10 new recruits to compliment the returning five upperclassmen.

The Gulls played in eight events last year, recording their best finish (4th) in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship at Leicester Golf Club. Scoring a total of 329 as a team, Endicott was led by Nick Turczak '08 (Housatonic, MA/Monument Mountain Regional), who fired a 77. Brian Gill '06 (Hudson, MA/Hudson) and Alex Lawner '07 (Hollis, NH/Hollis-Brookline) had rounds of 79 and 83, respectively.

The Gulls played in the ECAC Championships where Turczak placed third. As a team the Gulls placed 11th out of 19 teams with a team score of 332. Gill, Lawner, Mike Desrosiers '08 (Granby, MA/Granby) and Matt Davis also stepped up at the ECAC event.

The team played strong Division III competition such as perennial powers Salem State and Tufts University, losing to Salem 406-384 in a match that both Gill and Turczack shot rounds of 75.

The team placed 7th in Portland, Maine at the University of Southern Maine Fall Classic. Lawner fired a total of 160 while fellow teammate, Turczak finished the event with a two-day total of 162.

Lawner will be the only senior on the team this year. Turczak and Desrosier will add experience and leadership to a young team. There will be plenty of individual talent in the incoming freshman players. Dane Hodgon '10 (Chestfield, MO) looks to be a great player who can go low in his rounds. Also, Peter McDonald '10 (Manchester, VT) and Derek Martineau '10 (Salem, NH) as well as Peter Weatherby '10 (Portsmouth, RI) and Jerry Miceli '10 (Arlington, CT) will round out the freshman players.

Coach Richard Nagle is returning for his second season as head coach. Coach Nagle is also the Director of Golf at The Sheraton Colonial Golf Club as well as the head junior varsity basketball coach at Peabody High School.

"I am looking forward to a great season for the Endicott golf team," said Nagle. "We have some really great talent returning and some really exciting new players in our freshman class. I think if everyone plays to their ability and maintains a good mental attitude, we have a great shot at surprising a lot of teams this year."

The team will host the CCC Championship at the Essex Country Club on October 17 in addition to return engagements at the University of Southern Maine Fall Classic and NEIGA Championships. Moreover, Endicott will host their first invitational tournament this year.

The Gulls will open their 2006 season Thursday, September 14 against Tufts University.
