Men’s Basketball Turns Away Nichols, 85-69

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's basketball team bested conference rival Nichols College, 85-69, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Tuesday night at MacDonald Gymnasium.

Trailing by 12 points with six minutes to go in the first half, the Gulls went on a 15-8 run to bring the game within striking distance at the half, 39-34. Matt McDevitt (Cumberland, Maine) led Endicott on the run behind 12 points, all of which came from beyond the three-point line.

Meanwhile, in the second half, the Gulls built upon their newfound momentum via an 8-2 run over the opening two and half minutes of play in the second stanza to take their first lead of the game, 42-41, since the opening moments of the matchup.

From there, both teams traded blows all the way up until the 8:41 mark of the second half before Endicott erased a slim 59-58 deficit via a 26-11 run to close out the contest and secure the win.

McDevitt paced the Gulls in both scoring (24) and rebounds (9), while Jalen Echevarria (Lynn, Mass.) and Keith Brown (Pelham, N.H.) notched 18 and 15 points respectively.

Brown also added eight rebounds and two assists to his stat line in the victory.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is 19-17 all-time against Nichols.
  • The Gulls are now on a six-game winning streak (all CCC games).
  • Endicott is 7-0 this season when it buries 15 or more threes in a contest (16-for-38 tonight, 42.1-percent).
  • The Gulls' bench outscored Nichols, 16-5.
  • The Bison only led by as many as 12 points in tonight's matchup.

Endicott (15-4, 9-1 CCC) travels to Gordon on Saturday, February 1 at 3 PM. Nichols (11-8, 6-4 CCC) takes on The University of New England on Saturday, February 1 at 3 PM.
