BIDDEFORD, Maine — The Endicott men's basketball team broke the program record for points scored in its 116-93 win over the University of New England (UNE) on Wednesday night at the Harold Alfond Forum.
Endicott's offense featured six student-athletes in double-figures including Keith Brown (Pelham, N.H.), Matt McDevitt (Cumberland, Maine), Vinny Clifford (Danvers, Mass.), Jordan Pettway (Bridgeport, Conn.), Joe Shehadi (Dorset, Vt.), and Nick Thibeault (Gorham, Maine).
Brown led the group with 23 points, while McDevitt (20), Clifford (19), Pettway (12), Shehadi (12), and Thibeault (12) followed in the scoring column, respectively.
The Gulls' first half output was too much for UNE to bounce back from as the visitors poured in 62 points and were never threatened the rest of the way. Endicott's first half included a 30-14 run through the first 7:10 of action, a 63.6 field goal percentage (21-33) and a 57.1 three-point field goal percentage.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Gulls are 24-11 in the all-time series against UNE.
- The previous record for most points scored was 115 against the Nor'easters on 12/5/17.
- Endicott shot 63.6% from the floor (21-33) in the first half. It's the second-highest field goal percentage for the Gulls this season in the opening stanza of a game (67.7% vs. Thomas, 102-65 win).
- Brown's 17 rebounds in tonight's game established a new career-high and ranks tied for fifth all-time in a single game.
- The Gulls had 12 student-athletes find their way into the scoring column tonight.
- Today's contest was also a Mental Health Awareness Game in partnership with Hope Happens Here (H3). Hope Happens Here, founded in 2015 through the Saint Michael's College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), is a student-led movement that aims to promote mental health awareness and mental well-being on college campuses, in particular, student-athletes. H3 is starting the conversation to help break the negative stigma that surrounds issues regarding mental health.
