2017 CoSIDA Academic All-District™ Men's Basketball First Team
BEVERLY, Mass. – For the second straight year, Endicott senior guard Max Motroni (West Warwick, R.I.) has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Men's Basketball Academic All-District™ First Team as announced today.
The NCAA Division III District 1 team includes all schools in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont as the CoSIDA Academic All-District™ program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined academic and athletic performances.
Motroni, an entrepreneurship major at Endicott, carries a 3.83 cumulative grade point average (GPA) for the highest GPA on the Gulls' men's basketball team and is the first Endicott men's basketball student-athlete in program history to be recognized twice on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team™.
Motroni has earned several academic awards during his career at Endicott, becoming the first Endicott men's basketball student-athlete in program history to earn a spot on the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-District™ team last season, as well as being awarded Endicott's Male Student-Athlete of the Year in 2015-16, to go with two Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Academic All-Conference team nods.
Additionally, Motroni is a two-time member of the Endicott Academic Varsity Club and a Dean's List honoree. Motroni has interned with Northwestern Mutual doing financial advising and is active on the community front with stocking and serving food at the Open Door Food Pantry in Gloucester, Mass.
On the court, Motroni is second on the team averaging 13.6 points per game this season and first with 3.0 assists per game. He has scored in double figures in 16 of the Gulls' 22 games so far this year (with five 20+ point games) and is a two-time CCC Second Team All-Conference selection in his career. He was named to the 2015-16 Keene State College Tip-Off All-Tournament Team a season ago and has garnered Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week accolades twice in his career. In 2015-16, Motroni scored his 1,000th career point in the team's first-ever NCAA victory at Catholic and currently ranks fifth in career points in program history with 1,326 points.
While Motroni and the Gulls have three games remaining in the regular season before gearing up to make another postseason run, he'll also be up for a place on the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team, as all First-Team Academic All-District™ honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Meanwhile, the Gulls (17-5, 12-3 CCC) return to the home hardwood this Saturday as they host Roger Williams University inside MacDonald Gymnasium for a 3:00 p.m. tip off.

CoSIDA Academic All-District Program Requirements
The CoSIDA Academic All-District™ program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined academic and athletic performances.
All First Team Academic All-District winners, which includes eight districts total, move to the national ballot, and are then voted upon to the national team by members of CoSIDA's Academic All-America Committee.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his current institution and be nominated by his sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA recognizes four teams - NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-District™ Team combines NAIA, Canadian, and two-year schools. Previously, CoSIDA recognized a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I). With four teams now being selected, CoSIDA has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored.
