Endicott Tops Gordon, 84-83, In Thriller

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott men's basketball team won an 84-83 thriller over cross-town rival Gordon Thursday evening inside MacDonald in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

The Fighting Scots fought to the finish, but lost their second consecutive game by one point as Gordon's sophomore forward Garrisson Duvivier's (Brockton, Mass.) last-second jumper got stuck against the rim as time expired.

In a game that saw 11 tied scores and 13 lead changes, Endicott's largest lead of the night was the 44-38 margin at halftime.

Gordon led 79-76 with 5:05 to play, but with a quick turn of events, the Gulls found themselves up, 84-79, with 3:49 remaining and held on thanks to a little help from the backboard at the buzzer.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls are 22-17 overall and 11-9 at home in the all-time series against Gordon.
  • Endicott has won the past five meetings, including an 86-76 victory in the most recent meeting before today in the 2016 CCC Quarterfinals on 02/23/16 in Beverly, Mass.
  • The Gulls turned the ball over a season-low 11 times to Gordon's 12.
  • Endicott held a 25-15 edge off the glass at the half, but Gordon finished with 44 rebounds to the Gulls' 38.
  • Endicott placed three student-athletes in double figures as senior guard Kamahl Walker (Worcester, Mass.) led the way with a team-high 22 points.
  • Senior guard Max Motroni (West Warwick, R.I.) chipped in 19 points, followed by 11 points from senior forward Daquan Sampson (Germantown, Md.).
  • Senior guard Stephen Basden (Lynn, Mass.) grabbed a team-best eight rebounds, including five of the offensive variety to move into ninth all-time with 130 career offensive caroms.
  • Walker and senior forward Chris Lipscomb (West Springfield, Mass.) each recorded five helpers apiece.

FOR THE FOES

  • The Fighting Scots placed four student-athletes in double figures as sophomore guard Jake Haar (Huntington Beach, Calif.) scored a game-high 23 points as he hit 7-of-9 from downtown.
  • Duvivier, sophomore guard Eric Demers (Acushnet, Mass.), and sophomore guard Noah Szilagyi (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) added 18, 13, and 10 points, respectively.
  • Senior forward Sam Johnson (Chatham, Mass.) grabbed a floor-best 18 rebounds, including 12 offensive boards.
  • Junior guard Jaren Young (San Francisco, Calif.) dished out a game-high nine assists.
  • Gordon's largest lead of the night was seven points with 9:19 remaining in the first half.

The Gulls (10-2, 5-0 CCC) travel to Springfield, Mass. to take on Western New England at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7th.

Gordon (6-6, 3-2 CCC) hosts Salve Regina on Saturday, January 7th at 3:00 p.m.
