No. 24 Endicott Skirts Past Eastern Nazarene, 72-68

QUINCY, Mass.The No. 24 Endicott men's basketball team secured a 72-68 road victory at Eastern Nazarene College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon inside the Lahue Physical Education Center.

In a game that saw six ties and 11 lead changes, the Gulls managed a 36-29 lead at halftime after breaking a 29-29 tie with 4:34 to play in the first stanza.

Endicott opened the second half on an 8-0 run to amass a 44-29 lead at the 16:22 mark on senior forward Daquan Sampson's (Germantown, Md.) trey.

The Gulls led by as much as 23 with 12:50 remaining in the game, before Eastern Nazarene clawed its way back to within three points with 10 seconds left.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is on a three-game win streak.
  • Senior guard Kamahl Walker (Worcester, Mass.) tied the Endicott program history for most career free throws as he hit 3-of-5 from the charity stripe to bring his career total to 336, tying current assistant coach Lance Greene '13 for the most in program history.
  • Senior guard Max Motroni (West Warwick, R.I.) scored a game-high 23 points (also his season-high) to pace the Gulls' offensive attack.
  • Sampson chipped in 14 points to go with a team-high eight rebounds.
  • Senior guard Drew Sawyer (Norwalk, Conn.) dished out a game-high five assists (also a personal season-high).
  • Sophomore guard Rob O'Brien (Rindge, N.H.) scored a season-high eight points off the bench.
  • Sophomore guard Vinny Clifford (Danvers, Mass.) added a season-high seven points.

FOR THE FOES

  • The Lions placed five student-athletes in double figures as senior guard Anthony Petrilli (Santa Clarita, Calif.) posted a team-high 15 points on the day while adding four rebounds and four assists.
  • Senior guard Christian Lynch (Alpharetta, Ga.) finished with 14 points, five boards, and four assists.
  • Sophomore forward Patrick Michel (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) poured in 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench.
  • Senior forward Corey Doran (Fairfield, Calif.) chipped in with 12 points and four boards while freshman guard/forward Josh Rice (Hanson, Mass.) recorded a team-best 12 rebounds to go with four points.
  • Eastern Nazarene out-rebounded the Gulls, 43-36.
  • The Lions' largest lead of the game was three points at the 19:47 mark of the first half.

NOTES

  • Endicott is 19-10 all-time and 7-5 on the road at Eastern Nazarene dating back to the 1994 season.
  • The Gulls have won five of the past eight meetings, though lost both matchups last season.
