BEVERLY, Mass. — The No. 20 nationally ranked Endicott field hockey team fell to Bates, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at North Field.
The Bobcats got on the board early, just over a minute into the game when Riley Burns (Sterling, Mass.) took a 25 yard pass from Alexa Jurgeleit (Barrington, R.I.) settled it and put it in the back of the net. Bates then made it 2-0 just over three minutes into the second quarter when Grace Fitzgerald (Larchmont, N.Y.) put away a penalty stroke.
The Gulls got one back at 25:31 of the first half when Addi Williams (Pittsfield, Maine.) took the ball in from the left side and beat the Bates goaltender with a deflected high-looping shot.
Just over three minutes into the second half, Endicott tied the game at two via Kristen McCarthy (Danvers, Mass.) who hustled back into the play after feeding Jaylin Grabau (Lynnfield, Mass.) down the left sideline. Grabau then found McCarthy who was able to put away her second shot attempt to make it 2-2.
Bates then took the lead (3-2) for good just three minutes later via Elsbeth Caulo (Amherst, N.H.). Riley Burns (Sterling, Mass.) added the insurance goal for the Bobcats at 51:49.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott goaltender Taylor Farrin (Danvers, Mass.) made four saves in net to bring her season total to 21, (269 career).
- Emily Graham (Westford, Mass.) made her third career defensive save for the Gulls at 18:26.
- The Endicott defense held Bates to only one penalty corner in the second half.

No. 20 nationally ranked Endicott (3-2) travels to No. 17 nationally ranked Amherst on Tuesday, September 17 for a 7 PM contest. Bates (3-1) hosts Thomas (Me.) on Thursday, September 19 at 7 PM.
