Endicott Blanks RPI, 4-0

TROY, N.Y. — The Endicott field hockey team defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Harkness Field. 

Opening the scoring for the Gulls was junior Jaylin Grabau (Lynnfield, Mass.) who scored her first goal of the season at the 8:46 mark in the first quarter off an assist from senior Kristen McCarthy (Danvers, Mass.). 

McCarthy then added one of her own on a putback early in the second quarter (17:07). 

Meanwhile, Julie Champigny (Acton, Mass.) and Meaghan Hogan (Cheshire, Conn.) rounded out the scoring for the Gulls with tallies in the third and fourth quarters, respectively. 

Defensively, the Gulls stymied the Engineers only allowing four shots and three penalty corners. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE 

  • Endicott increased its lead in the all-time series over RPI to 3-1 with the win today. 
  • With her two assists today, McCarthy is now fourth on the all-time assists list for the Gulls with 20.
  • Hogan's goal today was her first career collegiate tally. 
  • This is only the third time in 17 seasons the Gulls have started the season with a 2-0 record. 

WHAT'S NEXT 

Endicott (2-0) hosts MIT in its home opener on Tuesday, September 10 at 7 PM. RPI (0-4) travels to New Paltz on Wednesday, September 11 for a 4:30 PM contest.
