Endicott Tops UNE, 1-0, To Finish CCC Play Undefeated

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott field hockey team welcomed the University of New England to North Field on Friday night for the last regular season game before the conference tournament and the Gulls came away with a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

Both teams came out in the first half looking to score and much of the half consisted of back and forth play centered in the midfield.

At the 25:21 mark, Sydney Poulin (Watertown, Mass.) fired a hard cross from the right side of the circle to the waiting stick of Kristen McCarthy (Danvers, Mass.), who then popped the ball up and over the UNE goaltender to give Endicott the 1-0 advantage.

The Nor'easters weren't going down without a fight, though, as they continued to pressure offensively. UNE outshot Endicott, 12-6, in the second half but the Gull defense stood strong to hold them scoreless as time expired.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Taylor Farrin (Danvers, Mass.) improved to 14-4 on the season and made 11 saves, including several diving stick-stops to preserve the shutout.
  • With this win, the Gulls secured the regular season championship and earned the top seed in the upcoming CCC Tournament.
  • This is the first season since 2008 that Endicott has gone undefeated in conference play.
  • Liz Sargent (South Burlington, Vt.) recorded three saves during the loss.
