Record Breaking Performance by Sawchuck Lifts Gulls to 4-1 Victory Over Husson

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott field hockey team hosted non-conference opponent Husson on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Emily Sawchuck (Cumberland, Maine) tallied three goals to help lift the Gulls to a 4-1 victory as she broke the all-time career scoring record. Endicott improves to 12-2 (6-1) while the Eagles fall to 5-7 (3-0 NAC). With the victory Head Coach Jodi Cipolla also earned a career milestone as she notched her 100th win.

Endicott will see the field next on Saturday, October 18th as they host Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Western New England at 1:00 p.m. as they Play for a Cure and host a Youth Day. The Eagles will take the field next on Saturday as well as they host conference opponent Colby-Sawyer for a homecoming matchup.

The first half was a battle as they Eagles outshot the Gulls 11-7 however the Blue and Green capitalized twice in the half in the offensive zone. 18 minutes into the half Sawchuck netted her first goal of the game after she controlled a rebound off an initial shot by senior Mackenzie Hurst (Gilford, N.H.) and tipped the ball into the right post. The goal marked a new record for the Endicott field hockey program as Sawhuck surpassed former teammate, Hannah Thornberg '13 in career goals (56).

Six minutes later freshman Olivia Larson (Cheshire, Conn.) notched her fourth goal of the season after she dribbled into the circle around an Eagles defender and blasted the ball into the back of the net.

Both sides would continue their offensive pressure as the Eagles forced sophomore goalkeeper Checka Ventura (Lawrence, Mass.) to make six saves in the half. Counterpart, freshman Abby Greenleaf (Newfield, Maine) was forced to make four saves on Blue and Green attack.

The second half was just as intense as the first as the Eagles outshot the Gulls again 13-10. However the Blue and Green were able to capitalize two more times in the second 35 minutes of play. 10 minutes into the half, Sawchuck notched her second goal of the game after she created an opportunity for herself in the circle as she pulled around two Eagle defenders and then beat sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlin Dolloff (Richmond, R.I.) to make it a 3-0 game.

11 minutes later Husson finally got on the board after many opportunities after sophomore Libby Kaine (Dexter, Maine) tallied her fifth goal of the season after she ripped a shot from the stroke and hit the deep right corner to cut the lead down to two.

In the 66th minute Sawchuck would again increase the lead back to three as she scored her third goal of the game for the hatrick. The forward worked her way into the circle and dribbled the ball all the way into the goal line and slipped the ball past Dolloff for the 4-1 lead.

The goal would be the last for both sides as the Blue and Green secured the 4-1 non-conference victory. Ventura ended the day with 16 saves while her counterparts, Dolloff and Greenleaf combined for nine.
