Two Second Half Goals Lift Gulls Over Chargers 2-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott welcomed Colby-Sawyer to North Field on Saturday afternoon for their second home game of the season. Two second half goals from junior Elizabeth LeClair (Wilton, Maine) and sophomore Morgan Bresnahan (South Burlington, Vt.) lifted the Gulls past the Chargers to now stand at 2-1 while their opponent sits at 0-2.

The Blue and Green did a lot of shooting during the match, the first half alone had 11. The Gulls however just could not finish on the plays. They came out with a couple great opportunities from Bresnahan who had two shots in a row that Chargers goalkeeper sophomore Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) was able to block. Junior Emily Sawchuck (Cumberland, Maine) also had three opportunities that were saved by Dumayne. Sawchuck dribbled down the end line straight for goal and ripped a shot that was quickly saved, she was able to pick up her rebound and try for round two but she was unsuccessful.

The Chargers had their fair share of opportunities in the first half. They were able to catch the Gulls in transition and take advantage of open space to move down the field. In the final five minutes of the half Colby-Sawyer gave sophomore goalkeeper Rose Bradley (Pottsdown, Pa.) some pressure as junior Alexa Comesanas (Germantown, N.Y.) ripped at shot on goal that Bradley was able to save but Comesanas grabbed her own rebound and attempted to get the Chargers on the board but Bradley shut her down.

The second half brought more energy from the Gulls. Just two minutes in Endicott got on the board after Bresnahan laid a ball across cage to LeClair for the one timer to bank the ball into the right corner. Colby-Sawyer got shut down by the Gulls defense in the second half being led by senior Emily O'Halloran (Cheshire, Conn.) who was a strong presence in the back field. The back field worked to not let the Chargers take a single shot in the half. Bresnahan gave the Blue and Green an insurance goal at 54:34 as junior Kathryn Walker (Middlebury, Conn.) sent a ball across cage that Senior Elizabeth Farr (Rindge, N.H.) tapped to Bresnahan at the stroke mark to slip it past Dumayne.

Endicott came out of the game with 21 shots while the Chargers were held to five. Colby-Sawyer forced five corners in the first half but the Gulls defense was able to control the situation and get the ball up the field. The Blue and Green had a total of eleven corners but could not capitalize on any. Junior Alyssa Clark (Gorham, Maine) had a couple of opportunities but the Chargers were able to put a stop on her shots.

Bradley made three stops in the contest while her counterpart Dumayne made an impressive 11 saves, having eight in the first half. Senior goalkeeper Lizetta Solarik (Carmel, N.Y.) entered the game in the second half to split time with Bradley.

Endicott will hit the road to UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday September 11^th for a 6:30 start. The Corsairs will be one of the strongest teams the Gulls face all season, last year they were able to hold the Corsairs at home with a win in a 3-2 OT decision.
