
WENHAM, MA— In their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener Saturday, the visiting Endicott Gulls blanked local rival Gordon 5-0 at Brigham Athletic Complex. Endicott improved to 4-1 on the year, winning their fourth consecutive game, and improve to 1-0 in the CCC as they begin their title defense. Gordon falls to 1-5 overall and drops to 0-1 in the CCC.
In the second stanza, the Gulls extended that lead to 5-0 in a span of 13 minutes behind Matties' and Enright's second goals of the day and one from senior Hannah Thornberg (Oakland, Maine), who capped the scoring in the 57th minute with her sixth goal of the year. Matties scored her first two goals of the season, while Enright now has seven goals to lead the Gulls.
Sophomore forward Emily Sawchuck (Cumberland, Maine), Thornberg, and Enright all picked up assists on the afternoon as well.
Despite heavy offensive pressure and a total of 30 shots in the second half, the Scots were held at bay by Endicott. Teixiera was outstanding down the stretch, making 17 saves after the break.
Gordon's Anna Bury (Huntingtown, Md.) turned away nine of the Gulls' attempts in the loss.
Endicott next returns home to host Salem State on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
The Scots travel to non-conference Framingham State on Tuesday, Sept. 18 for a 4:00p.m. start.
