Oct. 5, 2004

EC field hockey defeated Nichols College 2-1 today at Endicott's Tupper Field. This Commonwealth Coast Conference victory improves EC's record to 7-4 overall and 3-1 in the CCC. Nichols drops to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in the CCC.

The Bison came ready to play hitting the scoreboard early. With just 5 minutes and 22 seconds into the first half, Holly Higgins was left open in the circle to outplay EC's goalkeeper Erin Curry for Nichols' first and lone goal. Although EC out shot Nichols 17- 4 in the first half, the Gulls were only able to capitalize on one scoring opportunity. Senior Kim Doody tied the game on a penalty stoke that was awarded to EC after the Bison's goalkeeper Kara Cicchiello misplayed the ball with 2 minutes and 14 seconds in the half.

EC wasted no time in taking the lead in the second half. Just 3 minutes and 47 seconds into the second half, junior Ashley Wallace blasted a shot past Cicchiello for the game winning goal. The Gulls dominated play in the second half by continuing to outshoot Nichols, 12-5. EC's goalkeeper Erin Curry tallied eight saves for the game.

The Gulls look to continue their winning streak as they take on Fitchburg State Thursday October 7th at EC's Tupper Field.
