BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott football team captured its first-ever New England Bowl Championship with a 52-10 win over Dean College on Saturday afternoon at Hempstead Stadium.
Joe Kalosky (Plymouth, Conn.) was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the contest as the senior quarterback produced five touchdowns (four passing, one rushing) for the Gulls in the victory. Along with earning MVP honors, Kalosky also became the program leader in passing completions (665 total, 20-for-30 in the game) and passing touchdowns (79).
Kalosky's memorable day started early in the matchup with a 54-yard dart to Shea McManaway (Lisbon, Conn.) to put the Gulls ahead 7-0 at 13:29 of the first quarter.
From there, Dean responded with a 26-yard field goal at 6:21 to cut its deficit to 7-3 and followed a seven-yard rushing TD at 9:58 of the second to take a 10-7 lead.
The Bulldogs' advantage was short-lived, however, as Endicott answered 2:22 later via a two-yard TD pass to Will Genaway (Hinsdale, Mass.) and never looked back.
After Genaway's touchdown reception, Kalosky punched home a one-yard TD rush (00:15, 2nd, 21-10) and Nick DiCairano (Trumbull, Conn.) connected for a 42-yard field goal with no time on the clock to end the half with a 24-10 lead on the scoreboard.
Colin Campbell (Howell, N.J.) and Riley Shanley (Simsbury, Conn.) both helped set up DiCairno's field goal late in the first half as Campbell forced a fumble at Dean's 38-yard line and Shanley made an acrobatic catch near the sideline at Dean's 25-yard line with two seconds remaining on the clock.
In the third quarter, McManaway hauled in a 38-yard TD pass (10:06, 31-10), while Anthony Bracamonte (Saco, Maine) caught a wide-open two-yard TD pass near the left corner of the end zone to make it 38-10 (3:13).
Senior offensive lineman Shane Toland (Canton, Conn.) then got into the scoring action with a one-yard TD run at 14:45 of the fourth quarter (45-10) and classmate Greg Ruff (Saco, Maine) capped the scoring with a six-yard TD scamper at the 6:08 mark (52-10).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott became the first Commonwealth Coast Football program to win a New England Bowl Championship.
- The Gulls finished the year 6-1 at home.
- Endicott's nine wins (9-2 overall) is tied for the second-most victories in program history.
- The Blue and Green captured their first postseason title and win since 2012 (ECAC North Bowl Champions).
- McManaway's two touchdown receptions (six catches, 120 yards) pushed him into a tie for second all-time in program history with Shanley (16 total).
- DiCairano went 6-for-6 on PATs to give himself 100 total for his career (second all-time).
- Allen Gibson (Seymour, Conn.) posted a game-high (tied) 11 tackles (nine solo, two assisted, 0.5 for a loss) and forced one fumble in his final game as a Gull. With his 11 tackles in the contest, Gibson moved into sole possession of fourth place all-time (222). Gibson is the only non-linebacker and/or defensive linemen inside the top-5 all-time tackles list.
- Jesse Simoni (East Greenbush, N.Y.) had two tackles (one solo, one assisted) and picked off one pass. Simoni's interception pushed him into sole possession of fourth all-time on the career interceptions the list. Simoni now has nine interceptions total in his storied career.
- Today's game was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
