NEWPORT, R.I. – The Endicott football team defeated conference foe Salve Regina University, 30-24, on Saturday afternoon at Toppa Field.
Trailing 14-13 at halftime, the Gulls took control of the second stanza behind touchdown receptions from Shea McManaway (Lisbon, Conn.) and Riley Shanley (Simsbury, Conn.) to go along with a 24-yard field goal from Nick DiCairano (Trumbull, Conn.) to secure the victory.
McManaway's 12-yard TD catch at 11:36 of the third quarter gave Endicott a 20-14 lead at the time, while Shanley's six-yard TD grab pushed the Gulls ahead 27-17 at 12:21 of the fourth. From there, DiCairano capped the scoring for Endicott with his third field goal of the game with 5:55 left to play. DiCairano's other field goal makes came from 34 yards (3:03, 2nd quarter) and 47 yards (0:00, 2nd quarter).
Defensively, in the second half, the Gulls limited Salve Regina to 151 yards of total offense, and held the Seahawks to one third down conversion on six chances (2-for-2 on 4th down). Meanwhile, the first half for the hosts featured 186 yards of total offense and a 3-for-7 showing on third down.
Despite making it a 30-24 contest late in the fourth quarter (3:02), Salve Regina never had another chance to score offensively as the Gulls' offensive unit ran out the clock via a six-play, 13-yard drive over 2:43 to lock up the win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- McManaway, who also caught a five-yard TD pass from Joe Kalosky (Plymouth, Conn.) at 12:28 of the first quarter to tie the game up at 7-7, finished the game with nine catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns.
- It marks his fourth career multi-TD game, while his nine receptions tied his career-high, and his 118 yards fell two yards shy of tying his career-high in that category.
- Kalosky went 31-for-39 passing for 286 yards and two touchdowns. His career-high 31 completions ranks fourth all-time in program history.
- Anthony Bracamonte (Saco, Maine) caught a career-high 11 passes for 72 yards (6.5 average). His 11 catches ranks tied for sixth all-time.
- Tim Russell (Stoneham, Mass.) compiled a team-high (tied game-high) 10 tackles (six solo, 2.5 tackles for a loss) and one pass breakup. Russell has now paced the team in tackles in two games this season.
- Joseph Pagett (Newtown, Conn.) had three tackles and one interception, which led to DiCairano's first of three field goals in the second quarter (10-7 lead, 3:03).
- Hakim Fleming (Bridgeport, Conn.) notched his first career interception and also collected two tackles (one solo, one assisted, 0.5 tackles for a loss) in his first-ever appearance on the defensive side of the ball for the Gulls.
- Sam Opont (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Grayson Maddux (Park City, Utah) each had a sack, to go along with six (four solo) and three (two solo) tackles, respectively.
- Endicott's defense stymied Salve Regina when it mattered most as the Seahawks went a season-low 4-for-13 (.308) on third down.
- The Gulls won the time of possession matchup in every quarter but the third (33:09-26:51 overall).
- Endicott now leads the all-time series 9-8.
WHAT'S NEXT
Endicott (4-1, 2-0 CCC Football) enjoys a bye week before it returns to action at home on Saturday, October 19 against Curry College at 12 PM. Salve Regina (1-4, 0-2 CCC Football) travels to Western New England on Saturday, October 19 at 1 PM.
