BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott football team has placed 11 student-athletes on the Commonwealth Coast Football (CCC Football) All-Conference teams. It was announced by the league earlier today.
On offense, the Gulls saw fullback Hakim Fleming (Bridgeport, Conn.) and tackle Kha-lil Goodman (Bellmore, N.Y.) named to the first team, while tight end Riley Shanley (Simsbury, Conn.) and tackle Shane Toland (Canton, Conn.) were all selected to the second team, at their respective positions.
Meanwhile, on defense, cornerback Allen Gibson (Seymour, Conn.) was picked to the first team, while defensive back Zachary Poirier (Pawcatuck, Conn.), defensive lineman Sam Opont (Bridgeport, Conn.) and linebackers James Lewis (New Fairfield, Conn.) and William Rivera (Orangeburg, N.Y.) were all tabbed to the second team.
Lastly, punter Brett Fox (Niantic, Conn.) and DeNike (return specialist) collected All-CCC Football Special Teams first team accolades.
ALL-CCC FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM HONOREES (alphabetical order)
Hakim Fleming | Sophomore | Fullback | Bridgeport, Conn.
Fleming compiled 177 yards and four rushing touchdowns on 43 carries (4.1 yards per attempt) for the Gulls in 10 games played, to go along with his blocking assignments throughout the year at the fullback position. Fleming also caught two passes for 10 yards on the season.
Brett Fox | Senior | Punter | Niantic, Conn.
Fox registered 47 punt attempts on the season for 1,919 yards (40.8 average, 65 long). Fox also notched two touchbacks, five fair catches, 14 attempts inside the 20-yard line, and had 10 punts go 50 yards or longer. Fox led the conference in punting average, punts inside the 20-yard line, and ranked second for the longest punt of the year.
Allen Gibson | Junior | Defensive Back | Seymour, Conn.
Gibson ranked second on the team in tackles with 49 total (26 solo, 23 assisted, 1.0 TFL) to go along with one sack, one interception (32 yards), a pass breakup, a team-high three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery (14 yards). His three forced fumbles also ranked tied for first in the conference.
Kha-lil Goodman | Sophomore | Tackle | Bellmore, N.Y.
Goodman played in all 10 games for Endicott helping the Gulls rank fourth in the conference in yards per game, second in passing yards per game, and fourth in rushing yards per game. As a team, Endicott only gave up 10 sacks on the season, and never more than two in a contest the whole year.
ALL-CCC FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM HONOREES (alphabetical order)
James Lewis | Sophomore | Linebacker | New Fairfield, Conn.
Lewis collected 32 tackles (14 solo, 18 assisted, 4.0 TFL), one quarterback hurry, and two pass breakups in 10 games played.
Sam Opont | Freshman | Defensive Lineman | Bridgeport, Conn.
Opont was positioned fourth on the team in tackles primarily from the nose tackle position with 38 total (13 solo, 25 assisted). Opont also was third on the team in tackles for loss with 5.0.
Zachary Poirier | Senior | Defensive Back | Pawcatuck, Conn.
Poirier ranked first on the team in pass breakups with five to go along with one interception. He also was third on the team in tackles with 39. (18 solo, 21 assisted, 1.0 TFL).
William Rivera | Junior | Linebacker | Orangeburg, N.Y.
Rivera ranked first on the team in tackles with 84 total, (41 solo, 43 assisted, 10.0 TFL) to go along with two sacks and one fumble recovery. Rivera's 84 tackles were good for third in the CCC even though he only played in eight games.
Riley Shanley | Freshman | Tight End | Simsbury, Conn.
Shanley caught a team-high 38 passes for 425 yards (11.2 average) and six touchdowns (also a team-high) in 10 games played. Shanley, who averaged 42.5 yards per game at the tight end position, ranked fifth overall in the conference in touchdowns as a freshman.
Shane Toland | Junior | Tackle | Canton, Conn.
Toland played in eight games for Endicott helping the Gulls rank fourth in the conference in yards per game, second in passing yards per game, and fourth in rushing yards per game. As a team, Endicott only gave up 10 sacks on the season, and never more than two in a contest the whole year.
YEAR IN REVIEW
Endicott went 3-7 overall and 2-3 in CCC Football action on the year. The Gulls ended the 2017 season with back-to-back wins against Nichols (52-13) and Becker (38-0).
