Football Closes Out 2016 Season With 49-33 Win Over Curry

MILTON, Mass. – The Endicott football team closed out its 2016 season on a high note on Saturday afternoon with a 49-33 win over Curry College in a New England Football Conference (NEFC) matchup at Walter M. Katz Field.

Freshman fullback Hakim Fleming (Bridgeport, Conn.) highlighted the contest for Endicott with three rushing touchdowns, including a two-yard score in the second quarter that put the Gulls ahead for good despite the back-and-forth scoring that ensued in the second half.

As a team, Endicott compiled a season-high 543 yards of total offense on 180 yards rushing and 363 yards passing.

ENDICOTT OFFENSE/DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS

  • Fleming fell one touchdown shy of tying the single-game program record of four set by Mike Lane '12 against Plymouth State on October 15, 2011.
  • Joe Kalosky (Plymouth, Conn.) threw for a career-high 363 yards (17-for-35) and two touchdowns. Kalosky also punched home his second career rushing touchdown in the second quarter to make it a 14-6 game, at the time.
  • Michael Scherer (Middlefield, Conn.) rushed the ball four times for 28 yards and one touchdown at 3:48 of the first quarter (Endicott, 7-6).
  • Chris Lipscomb (West Springfield, Mass.) caught seven passes for a 125 yards, including a 30-yard TD catch in the fourth quarter. Over the past two games, Lipscomb surpassed his previous career high in receiving yards.
  • Thomas Connors (Amesbury, Mass.) caught Endicott's only other score with a 16-yard grab in the second quarter. Connors finished the day with three catches for 35 yards.
  • Conor Crotty (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) enjoyed a career-day with 141 yards on four catches.
  • Christian Martinez (Tariffville, Conn.) paced all student-athletes in tackles with a career-high 16 stops (10 solo, six assisted).
  • William Rivera (Orangeburg, N.Y.) was second on the team in tackles with 13 (two solo, 11 assisted, 0.5 sacks, 1.0 TFL).
  • James Lewis (New Fairfield, Conn.) and reigning NEFC Defensive Rookie of the Week Jesse Simoni (East Greenbush, N.Y.) both recorded interceptions in the win, while Travis Bounsy (West Newbury, Mass.) forced one fumble.
  • Craig Anderson (Franklin, Mass.) notched one sack, falling two shy of tying the school record held by Kevin Eagan '12 of 23.5 total.

CURRY OFFENSE/DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS

  • Alex Corvese (Cranston, R.I.) collected 211 yards through the air (18-for-28) alongside two passing touchdowns, and one rushing score.
  • D'Aundray Burcy (Hyde Park, Mass.) ran for 33 yards (six attempts) and one touchdown.
  • Jake Cawlina (Danvers, Mass.) had one touchdown catch and 87 yards on five receptions.
  • Dylan Vieira-Owens (Everett, Mass.) scored the only other offensive TD for the Colonels with a 32-yard score in the second quarter.
  • Sean Conroy (Hampstead, N.H.), who registered five tackles (two solo, three assisted), got the scoring started for Curry in the game with a 28-yard interception return for a touchdown at 7:55 of the first quarter.
  • Aidan Cawley (Abington, Mass.) guided the team defensively with seven tackles (five solo, two assisted), and a fumble recovery.

NOTES

  • Endicott finishes the year at 5-5 overall, 5-2 NEFC.
  • Curry falls to 3-6 overall, 1-6 NEFC.
  • The Gulls picked up their seventh straight win over the Colonels.
  • Endicott has also outscored Curry, 262-146, during that span.
