CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Endicott's defense held MIT to a season-low 165 yards of total offense on Saturday afternoon at Steinbrenner Stadium to remain undefeated in New England Football Conference (NEFC) play with a 21-9 victory.
The Gulls (2-3, 2-0 NEFC) managed the clock to near perfection despite rainy conditions averaging 2:20 per drive (15 total), while totaling 7:30 of possession or more in each quarter to aid their defense in limiting MIT to 28 yards rushing and 137 yards passing. Endicott also notched two interceptions and a fumble recovery in the win.
Joe Kalosky (Plymouth, Conn.), Michael Scherer (Middlefield, Conn.), and Lavante Wiggins (Pittsfield, Mass.) accounted for the scoring as all three student-athletes punched in rushing touchdowns inside MIT's 10-yard line, respectively.
ENDICOTT OFFENSE/DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS
- Kalosky's nine-yard run with 1:14 left to play in the first quarter opened up the scoring in the contest.
- Scherer added a six-yard TD dash with 2:16 remaining in the second quarter to break up a 7-7 tie before Wiggins made it 21-7 with his team-leading fourth rushing TD of the season at 7:57 of the third.
- Wiggins finished the contest with 59 yards rushing on 18 attempts.
- Kalosky manufactured 22 yards on the ground and 145 yards through the air (32 attempts, 19 completions, one interception).
- Chris Lipscomb (West Springfield, Mass.) hauled in 43 yards on four receptions, and netted 182 yards punting on five attempts (36.4 average, 53 long, 2 inside-20).
- William Rivera (Orangeburg, N.Y.) paced the Gulls in tackles with nine (1 solo, 8 assisted, 2.0 for a loss, one pass breakup).
- James Lewis (New Fairfield, Conn.) had four tackles and intercepted one pass, while Christian Martinez (Tariffville, Conn.) collected two tackles (one for a loss), an interception and one pass breakup.
- Zachary Poirier (Pawcatuck, Conn.) also shined defensively with seven tackles (five solo, one for a loss) and one pass breakup.
- Grayson Maddux (Park City, Utah) rounded out the list of highlights for the Gulls with four tackles (one solo) and a fumble recovery.
- The Gulls' defensive unit broke up a season-high eight passes.
- Christian Cole (Goshen, N.Y.) led the defensive unit with a career-high three pass breakups.
MIT OFFENSE/DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS
- Jack Bernatchez (Belgrade, Maine) punched home MIT's only offensive score with a one-yard TD run at the 11:42 mark of the second quarter.
- The Engineers are also recorded a safety at 5:52 of the fourth on a fumble that went out of bounds in Endicott's end zone.
- Eddy Garcia-Montes (Miami, Fla.) guided MIT's offense with six catches for 84 yards.
- Udgam Goyal (Frisco, Texas) went 12-for-32 passing for 137 yards and two interceptions.
- Kodiak Brush (Yorba Linda, Calif.) registered a game-high 13 tackles (11 assisted, 0.5 sacks, 0.5 tackles for a loss), and one interception.
- Matt Iovino (Sayville, N.Y.) finished second on the team in tackles with eight total (all assisted).
- Zach Duguid (Beverly, Mass.) had one tackle and recovered a fumble on a muffed punt return.
NOTES
- The Gulls are 13-1 in the all-time series against MIT, which dates back to 2003.
- Endicott won the possession matchup by nearly 11 minutes (35:07-24:53).
- The Gulls compiled 100 or more rushing yards for the fourth time this season.
- Endicott went 3-for-4 in the red zone.
- MIT checked into today's game ranked No. 9 in the country in passes intercepted, and No. 17 in third down conversion percentage defense.
